The Bullion Building, EC1

By on Monday, August 12th, 2019 in Lettings, Property of the week.

Stunningly rare and beautifully curvy, this corner aspect apartment occupies a prime position in this former bank.

About the Apartment

The apartment is located on the first floor (with lift) and has a pleasing triple aspect with a fabulous curved entrance hall with open plan kitchen and eating area, oval shaped reception room with recessed gold leaf ceiling feature providing a nod to the building’s former purpose, double bedroom with floor to ceiling wardrobes, en-suite fully tiled bathroom. The reception room occupies a prestigious position as the space was formerly the bank manager’s sought after “corner office” that was so important to status in those days (think Mad Men). The property features high ceilings, herringbone flooring, secondary glazing and some lovely bespoke furnishings and stunning pieces of art which shall remain for the duration of the tenancy.  Internal floorspace extends to 672 sq ft (62 sqm).

About the Building

The Bullion Building was built in 1959-1960 by the architects White and Traviss as Thessco House and was the London Branch of the Sheffield Smelting Company who were refiners, smelters and recoverers of precious metals. Converted into apartments in 1996, this first floor flat retains its wonderful herringbone parquet wood flooring in much of the apartment.

The Local Area

The Bullion Building is located on the corner of St John Street and Gt Sutton Street and is conveniently located for the bars and restaurants of Gt Sutton St, St John St and Cowcross Street, Waitrose and Tesco which are moments away.   For more wholesale purchases of butchery, Smithfield market is just at the bottom of St John Street and the property does have a sizeable freezer.  For the vegans and vegetarians out there, The Gate restaurant is superb and is located towards the other end of St John Street towards the shops and cafes of Islington’s Upper Street.

Transport Links

The main benefit of the location is the ability to walk to the West End, Islington, Shoreditch and the City without the need for trains or buses.  That said, the transport links of Farringdon station are excellent offering Thameslink rail services to Gatwick and Luton airports and Northern, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan line services.  Not long now until Crossrail (Elizabeth line) opens……….
