Arhhhhh, me hearty`s……..when writing about a home that just happens to look like a pirate ship, I could easily slip into the old sea dog chat, peppered with lots of seafaring references, but you land lubbers may not understand me……..so I`ll sea if I can do my best to refrain……I`m sure you could sea what I did there…..
About the Ship
Ok, on to the sensible bit……this magnificent home is actually a Spritsail Barge that was built by Horlock in 1926. Originally built to carry cargo between various cities, she now resides in the Limehouse Basin, E14, and offers over 1,300sq ft of versatile floating accommodation.
Currently arranged as a three double bedroom houseboat, and offering a wealth of character, that you would expect from an 86ft sailing barge……………so, once you`ve finished swabbing down the decks, climbing the rigging (unless like me you don’t have a head for heights – not sure I’d make a great pirate), and splicing the mainbrace (whatever that is??), you can relax on the upper deck of this fantastic entertaining space. Of course you have all the usual mod cons, so if your sea legs are not up to scratch, you can make the most of the space below the decks, with its huge reception area, bathroom and open plan fitted kitchen.
Offered with a full residential mooring, this fine vessel can be taken on the open water, but I`d think twice before trying to navigate the canals that meander through London.
So, for those looking for something unusual, and just a bit cool (c`mon, who wouldn’t love living on a ship), this is the dwelling for you! Oh, and splicing the mainbrace is apparently an order given aboard a naval vessel to issue the crew with an alcoholic drink. Though, I doubt you would need to wait for an order to crack open a bottle of rum…..
