About the building

Extending to over 1,200 sq. ft. on four floors, the house retains many original features such as four fireplaces, decorative carpentry, coloured glass windows, solid wood floors etc. and offers high specification throughout.

Accommodation has been organised to suit modern living, with more generous entertainment spaces, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. However, it would be easy to create partitions in the bigger rooms on ground and lower ground levels to create additional bedrooms if that was required.

Reception / Living Space

The ground floor comprises a double reception room extending to 22 ft., inundated with light thanks to its front windows to Myrdle Street and back windows overlooking the garden. The room offers two original fire places with handmade tiles, elegant wood panelling throughout the walls, and tinted wooden floors with geometric motives.

Bedrooms

The first floor is occupied by the master bedroom suite, with another fireplace, which has been fitted to offer plenty of built-in storage and a beautiful victorian style bathroom with a free standing cast iron bath.

The top floor is occupied by the second bedroom which also has its generously sized own shower room. All the rooms include high end fittings to match the Georgian interiors.

Kitchen and Dining

The lower ground level offers a beautiful and spacious kitchen diner, with exquisite white marble worktops and high end appliances including a bespoke hand-forged ‘Lacanche’ cooker, considered by many as the best in the world. A smart pantry has been created in the original vaults of the building and the charming dining room retains a fireplace and offers direct door access to the private back garden.

This kitchen-dining-garden level is ideal for entertaining and also offers a charming toilet built inside the old shed, convenient to service those al fresco dinners in the summer.

About the Area

The house is within the Myrdle Street conservation area. The area started being built with development of the London Hospital from 1751 on its site on Whitechapel Road, which provided the impetus for the development of the area.

Later development and redevelopment of sites resulted in pockets of Victorian and Edwardian development amongst primarily Georgian terraces. Elsewhere within the area, alleys and courts were swept away and replaced by model dwellings such as Fieldgate Mansions.

Myrdle Street contains a few of the last remaining Georgian Houses in the area, this particular one is a hidden gem, located in a quiet street next to the area known as the Aldgate Triangle, within a 10 minute walk of the City with its modern amenities, Brick Lane with its restaurants and bars, and Spitalfields market with an array of trendy shops, currently considered amongst the most vibrant areas in London.

This section between Aldgate East and Whitechapel, still offers great value for property purchases, however, the substantial urban regeneration which will take place in this location in coming years and the arrival of the Elisabeth line to Whitechapel in 2019, will likely push prices up very quickly.

Shadwell DLR and Overground stations are also within walking distance, and there are a number of bus lines in the vicinity running towards Central London and Docklands.
