About the Building
Dunbar Wharf on Narrow Street, E14, is named after the former proprietor of the original warehouses in the early 19th Century, Duncan Dunbar. He was linked to the brewing firm Taylor, Walker, but moved into shipping when he realised he could make more money exporting IPA (Indian Pale Ale), to the Empire. His son, Duncan Dunbar II was born at Dunbar Wharf in 1804. After being educated in Scotland, he returned to Limehouse in 1819 to eventually become a partner in the family business. On the passing of his father he became the owner, and felt that there was more money to be had owning the ships that transported the beer, provisions and people to the Empire. And he soon built up one of the greatest sailing fleets of the Victorian era, with their most famous ship, the Dunbar, taking on the family name.
About the Aparment
Located on Narrow Street, Dunbar Wharf is considered to be one of Limehouses premier addresses. This particular two double bedroom duplex offers 1120sqft/104m2 of accommodation within this secure riverside development. Flats in the block also have use of an on-site gym and concierge service.
Historic Narrow Street offers excellent local pubs and eateries, such as Gordon Ramseys “The Narrow”, and “The Grapes”, which is part owned by Sir Ian Mckellen (One of Limehouse`s famous residents). Both offer food and drink with a tranquil riverside backdrop. Ropemakers fields, just opposite, offers some good greenspace to the local area, and also plays host to the annual Limefest (Limehouse festival).
